I qualified as a registered nurse in 2008 and worked in general respiratory within STH. It was during this period that I first cared for patients with pulmonary hypertension & developed an interest in this specialised area. I then had the opportunity to transfer across to the Sheffield Pulmonary Vascular Disease unit when it opened in August 2010. I worked on the unit as staff nurse caring for in-patients for a few years and then became a clinical nurse specialist (CNS) in 2014.
The unit covers in-patient, out-patient and elective patient care. My role now encompasses caring and teaching in all of these areas. The CNS team have a telephone helpline which enables patients & primary care teams from the large geographical area we cover to contact us for advice. I became a non-medical prescriber in 2016.
