New study of nebuliser device for Pulmonary Hypertension 26th April 2018

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a serious medical condition which affects the blood vessels of people’s lungs. There are many different treatments available for PH which can improve the symptoms and therefore improve quality of life. Iloprost is a drug which works by widening the blood vessels to improve blood flow. Patients usually inhale the Iloprost via a nebuliser device. Recently a new device, the Breelib nebulizer (Vectura Group plc, Chippenham, UK), was developed specifically for Iloprost inhalation. It is planned that all suitable UK patients will eventually use the Breelib nebuliser.

A new study led by University of Manchester and taking place at UK sites including Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, will explore the experience and treatment outcomes of people with PH starting to use the new nebulizer. The study is funded by the Pulmonary Hypertension Association http://www.phauk.org/ . For further information please contact Dr Iain Armstrong at iain.armstrong@sth.nhs.uk .
