Pulmonary Vascular Disease Unit

The Sheffield Pulmonary Vascular Disease Unit (PVDU) is one of the largest Pulmonary Hypertension treatment centres in Europe with a referral population of approximately 15 million. Patients travel from the Midlands, Nottingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Yorkshire & Humber and Wales to Sheffield. They receive specialist  care from a large team including 5 medical consultants, a nurse consultant,  specialist nurses and a specialist pharmacy team, along with a multi-professional group of dedicated staff on our fully integrated unit. We currently prescribe specific treatments for over 1400 patients with all types of Pulmonary Hypertension and recruit patients for clinical trials exploring new treatments. In 2016/17 over 2300 patients were evaluated in our unit with more than 800 new referrals.
