Occupational Lung Disease
About the Occupational Lung Disease Service
The occupational lung disease clinic based at the Northern General Hospital every Thursday offers a consultant delivered and audited assessment of possible cases of occupational lung disease, and integrates this clinical assessment with the multidisciplinary team, including respiratory specialist nursing, physiologists and scientific staff.
Patients are assessed by one of three Occupational Lung Disease Specialists;
- Dr Christopher Barber
- Dr Clare Burton
- Professor David Fishwick
They are also supported by
- Dr Lisa Bradshaw (Respiratory Nurse Specialist)
- Dr Ruth Wiggans (Respiratory Specialist Registrar)
An occupational multi-disciplinary team meeting (MDT) is held weekly and all new referrals are discussed in this forum. In addition, all patients are discussed at a radiology MDT meeting.
Physiological assessment is offered by the Respiratory Physiology Department. This unit has a wide experience in physiology testing relevant to occupational lung disease. Scientific advice and support is sourced from the Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL), a national laboratory facility based in Buxton.
